The staff of Tampa plastic surgeon Dr. Antonio Gayoso has a wealth of experience helping the people of the Tampa Bay area eliminate stubborn deposits of fat (by freezing fat cells) that just won’t respond to diet and exercise.
The traditional approach to permanent fat reduction has been liposuction, and Dr. Gayoso has achieved fantastic results with that procedure. However, there is another option if you want something innovative and non-surgical: CoolSculpting (cool sculpting). With more than 7 million treatments world wide, Coolsculpting is the world’s #1 FDA-cleared, non-invasive fat reducing technology.
At Gayoso Plastic Surgery, we are a proud member of the 1000 Club with Coolsculpting™, having completed more than 1000 Coolsculpting™ treatments at our office (actually, our number of treatments is nearly 3000 now!). Our dedicated staff remain committed to providing you with the latest advances in Coolsculpting™, including the most current generation of applicators that offer treatments in as little as 35 minutes. If we determine that you are not a candidate for Coolsculpting™, we have several other body contouring options that you might consider, including surgery with our board certified plastic surgeon, Antonio J. Gayoso, MD. Our Coolsculpting Team Lead, Gina Pollick, has attended advanced training thru Coolsculpting University Masters Class, an invitation only advanced training school for Coolsculpting personnel that have considerable experience with Coolsculpting. Finally, our practice has all of the latest generation of applicators to treat just about any area on your body!
What is CoolSculpting?
In a traditional liposuction procedure, our plastic surgeon will use a saline solution or ultrasound to break up fat cells in the treatment area, and then remove them using a small tube. CoolSculpting offers a non-invasive, non-surgical option for permanent fat reduction. Developed by Harvard scientists, CoolSculpting is an FDA-cleared body contouring procedure that uses cold temperatures to target and freeze away fat cells in the treatment area. In fact, it is the #1 non-surgical fat reducing treatment in the world.
CoolSculpting is completely non-surgical. The procedure works like this:
- We place a small cooling device over the treatment area. It can be suction or surface based.
- When the device is activated, the suction applicators will pull the skin and fat up between into the cooling applicator. The surface based applicator will cool the skin without having to use suction to engage the tissue.
- The applicator surface then becomes very cold.
- These cold temperatures numb your skin, while targeting and destroying fat cells in the treatment area.
It’s that simple. No surgery. No anesthesia. No needles. Your body will naturally flush out the broken fat cells over 4-16 weeks after the procedure is completed. CoolSculpting (cool sculpting) is quickly becoming the go-to fat reducing procedure of busy persons who can not take time out for recovery from surgery.
Most Coolsculpting procedures can be completed in as little as 35 minutes with the latest generation of applicators, however, some areas (like the outer thighs) may take a bit longer. Most patients opt for treatment in multiple areas to achieve the best results. This ‘treatment to transformation’ can have a great impact on your overall shape.
Great staff and great quality procedures. I had a cool sculpting procedure done last week and I could not be happier with my results so far (down a Pants size in less than a week) Thank you guys!!! If this is just the beginning of my results I can’t wait to see what’s to come in the next two months.

After your treatment, you will be able to return to your normal activities immediately. Our trained staff will keep you informed of what you can expect before, during and after your treatment.
What are the Advantages of CoolSculpting?
Most patients who are liposuction candidates are also candidates for CoolSculpting. Like liposuction, CoolSculpting is not a weight loss procedure. You should be at or near your ideal body weight before undergoing the procedure and strive to stay at that goal weight in the weeks and months after your treatment.
Advantages to Coolsculpting include:
- It is a non-surgical procedure.
- The recovery process is quite limited. You can return to your normal activities immediately.
- The procedure itself is simple and relatively painless. You can read during your CoolSculpting, listen to music or watch videos on your computer. Many patients even conduct some business while on the Coolsculpting device. It’s that simple.
- Side effects are brief and limited and include redness, numbness and minor tenderness, all of which are temporary.
- CoolSculpting does not affect other non-fat cells in the treatment areas.

Coolsculpting FAQ’s: Gayoso Plastic Surgery
Why choose Gayoso Plastic Surgery?
We know fat. As a plastic surgery practice with 21 years of experience helping patients remove unwanted fat surgically via liposuction and tummy tuck, we understand how the body responds to fat reduction. We knew there were patients desiring an alternative to surgery for various reasons and so we were excited to learn about Coolsculpting. When Coolsculpting first became approved by the FDA in 2010, we followed the technology to see if it provided the results that our patients expect with body contouring procedures. In 2012, we were satisfied that it would be a wonderful alternative for our patients that could not, for whatever reason, have surgery and our Coolsculpting division was borne. In fact, Gayoso Plastic Surgery was the first plastic surgery practice in Pinellas County to offer Coolsculpting. To date, we have more than 3000 treatments completed. At Gayoso Plastic Surgery, we consider ourselves a boutique plastic surgery practice. We understand that selecting a provider for a procedure such as Coolsculpting can be very stressful, and we take every opportunity to make all of our patients feel comfortable and confident in not only the procedure itself but in our ability to get the best results possible. We invest in training our staff so that they are well equipped to get you the results you deserve. Our before and after Coolsculpting photos are real patients that we’ve treated. Not stock photos purchased from other providers.
What is Coolsculpting?
Coolsculpting™ is a non-surgical, non-invasive procedure that involves cooling your fat to a temperature that kills the fat cells. This process is officially termed cryolipolysis. Cryolipolysis uses a precisely controlled cooling process which affects fat cells to the point that they can’t survive. Surrounding structures and tissue, (skin, nerves, muscles etc.) are not impacted. Once the cells have been frozen, your body takes the crystalized cells and breaks them down in a slow, methodical process and over 2-4 months, the affected cells are removed from your body naturally thru the liver and kidneys.
Is Coolsculpting permanent?
Yes. Once fat cells are frozen, they can’t regenerate. Because Coolsculpting destroys fat cells rather than shrinking them, the results are permanent. Once the cells are removed, they are gone. The remaining fat cells can enlarge or shrink with fluctuations in body weight, which is why we educate our Coolsculpting patients to maintain a healthy diet and exercise program. Coolsculpting is not a pass to eat or drink in excess.
Is Coolsculpting a weight loss procedure?
No, Coolsculpting is not a weight loss procedure. Coolsculpting is a non-surgical body contouring procedure that improves the shape and contour of body areas. Fat cells take up space on the body so when they are removed, the body shape changes. It is common for our patients to tell us how much better their clothing is fitting, starting about 1 or 2 months after their treatment. The improvement in shape can continue for up to 4 months or more. Coolsculpting (cool sculpting) is an alternative to liposuction but does not replace weight loss.
What does a typical Coolsculpting treatment feel like?
Although the procedure does not involve surgery or incisions, patients can experience mild to moderate discomfort, especially in the first 1-7 minutes of the treatment. Once the tissue becomes cold enough, this initial discomfort subsides and our patients generally watch TV, listen to music, read a book or spend time on their smart phone, or even sleep. When the treatment is completed, the treated area is massaged for a full 2 minutes to assure that all fat cells that have been cooled are fully destroyed. This massage is uncomfortable but it only lasts 2 minutes. As the tissue warms back up, additional discomfort can be experienced for a few minutes. Nearly all of our staff members, including Dr. Gayoso, have had Coolsculpting performed so we would be a great source to accurately tell you what to expect with your procedure.
Coolsculpting vs Liposuction: which is for you? What is the cost of Coolsculpting?
Because we are a full service plastic surgery practice that offers both surgical and non-surgical treatment for permanent fat reduction, our job is to help navigate you thru the decision process. Coolsculpting, because it is very effective and safe with no downtime, is often chosen by our patients that can’t or don’t want to take time out of their busy life for a recovery. Many of our patients even complete work while they are on the device and all of them return to their regular routine with little to no disruption. We will, however, compare and contrast Coolsculpting and liposuction so that you can make a truly informed decision on which procedure might be best for you. Coolsculpting prices vary by the area treated and the applicator used. Typical cool sculpting cost range from $700 and up. We do offer specials that can help you save money on your Coolsculpting treatment so be sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram or join our email list by sending an email to us at info@drgayoso.com and letting us know you’d like to be on our email specials list.
