Good Candidates for a Facelift
If you feel that aging of your face makes you look older than you feel or just older than you want to admit, a facelift is the unequaled technique for helping you turn back the clock and achieve a refreshed appearance. Despite the improvements in medical technology, nothing equals a facelift for its ability to achieve customized, natural-looking rejuvenation of your facial appearance. If you have deep folds in the face, sagging jowls, or loose skin in the neck region, a facelift can get rid of them to make you look years younger.
The right facelift for you is not something that can be easily described on a website. This page gives some general information about facelifts, but the only way to learn about the facelift procedure that can give you the results you desire is by scheduling a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Antonio J. Gayoso. To talk to Dr. Gayoso, please contact Gayoso Plastic Surgery today.
I was aprehensive and almost felt intimidated of the thought of even walking into a plastic surgeons office. I’m not a girly girl, and never took my looks in vein, but at 64 I was really showing signs of ageing. I had only discussed having my eyelids done and had met Dr. Gayoso and his team for councling for just that procedure. He never once tried to talk me into anything more than what I originally wanted. UPON My Return Visit for my prep for my eyelids he asked if I had anymore questions…yes I said how about a complete facelift? I’m glad you said that…I’m delighted you want to do more than the eyelids. He said I can’t make you look 25 again but it will take 10 years off. I didn’t want to look 25 again and 10 years would be juse fine. Now that I’m 6 months past the surgery Ive been told i look no older than 40 . All of the staff made me feel special, no judement here. Dr Gayoso is the best, a perfectionist, an artist if you will. A real gem and ladies he is easy on the eyes. Thanks so much for your talent and exquisite work. – Laura

Understanding Facial Aging
As we age, three important changes take place in our face. Our skin changes, losing elasticity and glow. We lose volume in our face as the body shifts how it stores fat. And the tissues of our face succumb to gravity and begin to sag. Although nonsurgical procedures have been invented that can combat the first two, only surgical intervention can elevate the tissues.
The results of sagging tissue include:
- Deep facial folds around the mouth
- Sagging skin and fat below the chin and in the neck
- Banding in the neck
When the tissue is elevated, these effects can be significantly reduced or even completely corrected.
Although there are many names given to facelifts, your facelift is a fully customized procedure. Getting a facelift is like buying a wedding dress–you can buy one off the rack, and it’ll be okay, but if you want to look your best, you want it to be custom-made. Even though we may describe some basic variations on the procedure, your actual facelift will be designed just for you.
That said, there are some basic categories of facelifts that we talk about. A midface lift focuses mostly on your cheeks. A mini facelift addresses sagging in the mid and lower face, but does not include the neck. A full facelift includes the face neck, and more often gives better results than a necklift alone, even if you are mostly concerned about sagging in the neck. Any facelift procedure can also be combined with upper and lower eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) to provide a comprehensive facial rejuvenated appearance.
After your facelift, you will experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising in the face. Depending on the amount of lifting and personal variation, these can be more or less serious. How long these take to go away depends on the amount of lifting and on your personal healing rate. Expect to take 1-2 weeks off from work. You should feel fully healed within a month, but your results will continue to improve for several weeks.
The longer healing time is a trade-off for the unequaled rejuvenation provided by a facelift. After your facelift, you will look younger and refreshed. Your face will not be changed, just rejuvenated. You won’t have a tight or swept appearance–you’ll just look like a younger version of yourself. These results are essentially permanent, but although we can turn the clock back, we can’t stop aging. You will continue to look younger, but you will continue to experience facial aging. Most people enjoy significant results for ten years or more following a facelift.
