Questions About Face Lift SurgeryConveniently located to serve St. Petersburg and Tampa
What is a face lift?
A face lift (sometimes facelift) is a surgical procedure for rejuvenating the appearance of your face. It can combat many of the signs of facial aging to help you look years younger.
What can a face lift treat?
A face lift works by elevating sagging tissues. It addresses many of the common effects of facial aging, like
- Jowls
- Lack of definition in the neck/chin area
- Facial folds like nasoliabial folds or marionette lines
It doesn’t address fine wrinkles or the eyelid and forehead area. For rejuvenation in the upper face, many people seek either eyelid surgery or a brow lift in addition to or instead of a face lift.
I thought injectables like BOTOX® and dermal fillers made face lifts obsolete?
Not at all. New techniques like BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers, such as Juvederm® or Volbella®, are among the great tools that let us do things we never could do before, but they are in no way a replacement for a face lift. Often, they work as an excellent supplement to face lifts, but they cannot provide the same degree of lifting and rejuvenation as a face lift.
Laser skin treatment is another treatment option that technology has given us. Although many people like to have this along with their face lift, it is no substitute, and can provide only a small amount of lifting.
What type of face lift should I get?
You should get the face lift custom-designed for you. There are many names given to face lift procedures, but ideally you should be talking to a plastic surgeon who has the skill and inclination to design a face lift procedure specifically for you based on the personal character of your facial aging.
Will a face lift change my face?
No. A face lift is designed to make you look not like anyone else, but like a younger version of yourself. If you see someone with a tight or swept look, it is likely an older procedure or the work of a less-experienced surgeon.
What is recovery from a face lift like?
After your face lift, you will experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising. This can last for up to two weeks, and it may take up to 12 weeks to see the full results of your procedure.
This may seem like a long time compared to the no-downtime procedures, but as with anything in life, it’s a tradeoff. Yes, recovery does take time, but no other procedure gives such long-lasting and natural-looking results over so much of your face as a face lift.
