Rhinoplasty Procedure, Results, and Recovery
For simple surgeries, Dr. Gayoso uses a closed rhinoplasty, in which all the incisions are located inside the nose. In most cases, though, he will make an incision in the columella, the skin between your nostrils. This allows him to better visualize the changes to your nose and make them precise. This incision generally heals well and most people have a very subtle trace that is not generally noticeable. Once the reshaping of your nose is complete, it may be temporarily packed or fitted with tubes to help it hold its shape. These tubes and packing are removed in a few days after surgery.
Although you do not need to take much time off work after your rhinoplasty, perhaps a week, until any sutures or splints are removed, you will have to refrain from vigorous activities for perhaps six weeks. There may be some minor swelling that will persist for some time after surgery. Your nose will look better immediately after surgery than it did before, but your final results may not be visible for several months, over which time it will continue to improve.
